Today, Saturday 22nd April is Earth Day. It’s a day where we look a little bit more at how we treat the environment and the impact it has on the world around us. In particular, this year it’s a prominent topic, with climate change denial being part of the current American administration. While this terrifies me, as it will inevitably lead to years of damaging policies ahead, I am thankful for the tireless work of the scientists who are working to save our planet.
Over on Netflix, they’ve got a variety of documentaries which should definitely open up your eyes to what is going on with this planet of ours. They’ll open your mind, get you thinking and hopefully make a change in what you do. These are just a few of the ones to look out for this Earth Day.
Insomnia is never really a welcome friend to any house. I’ve never been a big fan of it – I like my sleep, comfy and duvet covered. It went without saying that the sleep deprivation caused by the installation of a baby into my life was tolerated (barely) but not loved. So when I finally manage to get a child who is sleeping (not sleeping the night, but sleeping in blocks that feel like it’s a full nights sleep) and I’m stuck staring at the wall at 3am, that’s really just a bad joke. One that really, really isn’t funny.
Last week I started having some slight breathing issues where simple things like walking and talking would make me so dizzy I had to sit down and stop, or risk falling over. In typical form, this initially happened on a treadmill, mid-physio session. Because, where else would you fancy almost fainting? Off I toddled to my GP, who after a quick listen to my chest announced my athsma had decided to flare up for the first time in a few years and I’d have to be on a course of steroids for the week. Grand, as long as it stops the forever dizziness, all was good. Or so I thought. What to do when you’re being deprived of the right to catch a bit of shut eye? May as well find something good to watch. Our house at the moment is an awake one, reluctantly for the adults, enthusiastically for our tiny tyrant. I get where he’s coming from; Mammy used to spend all day with him so he had all day with her and all night to sleep. Now Mammy goes away for the day so something has to go, and its not the time with Mammy that he is willing to forfeit. His little eyes have full-on suitcases under them, but he’s bouncing awake three hours after bedtime every night this week, and grumpy because he’s tired and we’re less enthusiastic about play with every hour that goes by.Read More
